The fourth film also claimed for the second time to be the end of the series. Will it be? I doubt it, but if so it seemed fitting due to the surreal feeling purveyed throughout the movie. Oblivion seemed more of a throwback to the original than the last two did. That ending was as strange as it gets for us Phans, but should anything surprise us where the Tall Man is concerned? Jody's true death was finally revealed, along with his true intentions from the last film. Reggie, for the first time, seems tired of the chase, but diligently comes to his friend's aid one more time. Mike shows signs of possibly gaining powers similar to his adversary. We see (a bit clouded) the Tall Man's origin. Didn't get nearly enough of this if you ask me though. The pace of the film feels much like the first. Some very interesting images and situations play for these ninety minutes. Reggie gets blue-balled by another babe, she gives new meaning to breast implants. The strangeness of this one can't be denied. We also get enough juicy, ball-busting action and blood to satisfy. The Tall Man finally has Mike and Reggie dead in his sights at the end, but decides to take his ball and go home. Weird, weird, gave us all more to ponder, especially if that truly was the finalization of Phantasm. I think sliding in unused footage from the first film was a great move.
