This is (arguably now)the bloodiest version of Gaston Leroux's novel and stars Robert Englund in I feel his best non-Freddy role. This movie adds new twists to the legend along with the blood and has a good storyline that is fast paced. I always heard bad things about this movie, but I loved it since it came out. Some very cool scenes and stylish direction. Don't know why this movie hasn't garnered more attention and fans (guess it's not 'cool ' to like a movie with Robert Englund not playing Freddy for the whateverenth time), but it should have. A must see for Phantom fans and the then and now story actaully works more so than i've seen in other movies. Good effects and make-up didn't make me long for Lon Chaney jr or Claude Rains either. I put this one ahead of Dario Argento's (but I like that one for it's new twists as well), but that's another review.
