Dario Argento's version of the tale is a beautifully shot, disturbing movie with Julian Sands (WARLOCK) cast in the role of the Phantom. Instead of being hideously deformed this Phantom is raised in the darkness by rats and because of this has the power to command these rodents and other creatures of the night. He also has superhuman strength and relishes killing humans in some truly gruesome ways. He tears one man in half, bites off a woman's tongue, et cetera. Ultimately the special effects and photography are far better than the script or Asia Argento's 'acting'.
