In this Canadian version of THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN (it even features one of the actors from that movie), a scientist creates a virus, called M3, which accelerates the growth of plants but is deadly to humans. She's accidentely contaminated-and the virus is let free from the complex by a malfunctioning air system. It's carried off by birds and soon people in the surrounding city start dropping like flies. The movie shows how quickly a virus can spread-and successfully conveys a sense of dread. The city is surrounded by National Guard, preventing anyone from leaving. In the end a cure is found but not before two of the scientists try an antidote of their own, which inadvertantly make them carriers of a deadlier virus. They are put in quarantine...indefinitely! PLAGUE is a gripping movie, much better than the Dustin Hoffman vehicle OUTBREAK.
