A family moves out to a cheaper house in the suburbs. The husband (Sam Rockwell) is out of work and searching for a job to match the income of the old one and the mother is thinking about finishing her book. Their teenaged daughter isn't happy about moving to the poorer neighborhood and the young son is having nightmares. He doesn't like having his bedroom up in the attic, particularly when he finds an old clown toy. The only one who seems okay is the little girl, who now has an invisible friend. What I liked the best is the supernatural investigator they get (Jared Harris) and what it looks like in the ghost dimension. It's creepy as hell.
This is a commendable remake and follows all the plot points of the original. It wasn't necessary but it did do a good job of updating the story to our present decade.
