Derek de Lint portrays supernatural investigator Derek Rayne, who is leader of the San Francisco branch of The Legacy. Helping him are Nick Boyle (Martin Cummins of DARK ANGEL), a former soldier, Alexandra Moreau (Robbi Chong), a social worker, Rachel Corrigan (Helen Shaver of THE BELIEVERS), a psychiatrist, and a priest.
The first episode takes place in Ireland, where they are to recover an ancient artifact that contains a Fallen Angel. One of these creatures had killed Rayne's father years before and he's made it his mission to find every one of these creatures. It's on this trip that we're introduced to Rachel Corrigan, who is there with her daughter visiting her husband and son's graves. They had been killed the year before. The creature itself is depicted as this skeletal creature. William Sadler (ROSWELL tv series, DEMON KNIGHT) portrays an Irish antique dealer who is possessed by the demon.
Other episodes involve putting ghosts to rest, a curse from a witch and destroying a demon that has been cloned. The last episode of the season involves Rayne being on trial by leaders of the other Legacies-and serves as a flashback episode recapping the season.
This show is an uneven mix, with some of the episodes rather dumb while others are genuinely creepy. The special effects are computer-generated, and being done in the late 90's look rather primitive when compared to those from a decade later. The cast, however, works well together, particularly with de Lint as the all-too serious leader of the gang.
