This new Animal Planet series crosses the time machine with Jurassic Park and Crocodile Hunter. In the premiere episode, we're introduced to the park and its intention of bringing extinct creatures back from the past. They go for a Tyrannosaurus at first and end up bringing back two young ones after the mother is killed (and at the last minute, before the asteroids hit Earth 65 million years ago and kill them all off). The second episode they go after a Woolly Mammoth and end up also catching a Woolly Rhinoceros.
While the special effects are great and the producers went to great lengths to make it look believable, the premise of "saving them from extinction" doesn't work. First, they're already extinct-they'd be bringing them back from extinction. Also, they'd need numerous pairs of males and females to replenish the species, not just bring back one Woolly Mammoth or two sibling T-Rexes. And perhaps the biggest question is "Why are they doing this?"
This is like a G rated JURASSIC PARK, exactly what it's intended as.
