Evolutionary Zoologist Nick Cutter, along with student Connor Temple and lab technician Stephen Hart, go to investigate strange animal sightings in the Forest of Dean (UK). They're surprised to find a Scutosaurus, a creature from 250 million years ago. And there's lso a Gorgonopsid, a large predator. What's making it possible for these creatures to be in the present is a sort of time-gate or Anomaly, a "rip in time".
This forest is also where Nick Cutter's wife, Helen, disappeared eight years before, her body never found. But she's still alive, and has been traveling in time.
Also involved is Claudia Brown, a civil servant, who works for Sir James Lester, who wants to keep these anomalies secret from the public. So a team is established, consisting of Cutter, Connor, Hart and Abby Maitland, a reptile expert.
In the first season they encounter giant spiders and centipedes, a group of Dodo birds carrying a deadly parasite, a Pteranodon who may be killing golfers on a golf course and a creature that isn't from the past at all but the future, a large ape-like creature descended from bats.
Helen Cutter also makes her intentions clear-- she reveals that she had an affair with Cutter's friend, Stephen Hart, and that she's in this for herself. In the last episode she escapes custody and disappears into one of the anomalies and when Cutter returns he finds out that time has been altered because Claudia Brown, his love-interest, no longer exists. No one remembers her except him.
This is a fun, exciting series with some cool monsters.
