Not only will author Edgar Rice Burroughs be turning in his grave about this lame adaptation of his Classic novel, he'll be doing backflips. It is truly pathetic. Here, John Carter (Antonio Sabato, Jr), is a lone special ops soldier working in the MiddleEast when he's injured and his mind transported to Mars, which still looks exactly like the landscape when he was in the Middle East. He encounters the tusked Tharks, which are guys in badly made rubber masks. They also have only two arms, not four. The worst of all is the Princess, who is the horribly miscast Tracy Lords, who is twenty-years too old for the part (she's getting the turkey neck) and blonde.
The only thing this movie has in common with the book are some of the names and that it takes place on Mars. To make it even more ludicrous, the dvd cover box art says "The Classic story that inspired James Cameron's AVATAR". It's like me randomly putting this info on virtually any movie--this has nothing whatsoever to do with AVATAR, much less Burrough's A PRINCESS OF MARS. Sheesh!
