Jim Profit (Adrian Pasdar of HEROES) is a young businessman all set to work at his new job at a multinational company. As we quickly learn he has an agenda, which involves climbing to the top, not matter who he destroys. Of course, he has the help of his secretary, who has embezzled money to help care for her crippled mother, and he's able to blackmail others as well. He even manages to frame the vice-president of the company for murder. The one person who is on to him is the head of company security, Joanne Meltzer (Lisa Zane of FREDDY'S DEAD).Information is revealed when Jim's step-mother, Bobbi Stakoswki (Lisa Blount of PRINCE OF DARKNESS), shows up. He had tried to kill his father by burning him alive--and had disappeared and assumed a new identity. Now, he wants to find out where his father is so he can finish the job. As a kid he was horribly mistreated and kept in a cardboard box, like an animal. In fact, when we see his secret room in his apartment--he sleeps naked in a similar box.
This odd television series is definitely influenced by AMERICAN PSYCHO, though he's not so blatant in his craziness. It is a fascinating look at a sociopath. PROFIT is a disturbing series that starts off strong but becomes too convoluted after the fifth episode.
