This is a weird one. A mother and daughter (Madeline Stowe and Mischka Barton), on their way back from the house of the ex-husband, witness the aftermath of a car accident alongside the road. It seems like your typical highway accident, except for a young couple who are taking pictures and acting as if it's a picnic.Mom and daughter soon stop at a truck stop to get some coffee. The mother is a stressed-out personality and has gotten little sleep. The daughter doesn't seem to like the mother very much, clearly preferring her father, who she only sees every other week. At this truck stop the people are all odd & staring at them. There's this strange infomercial on television about 'opening the doorway to your mind' and the mother falls asleep for an instant, as though hypnotized. The weirdness accelerates after the two get in a verbal argument and the girl hitches a ride with people on a camper. These people turn out to be the couple who were taking pictures at that accident. The mother freaks out, tries to get help from a policewoman at the truck stop-and follows the pursuit. She soon realizes that that woman isn't really a police officer and that there's some kind of conspiracy about kidnapping people at these roadside stops. If you like David Lynch movies you'll enjoy this.
