This new Marvel adaptation is what THE INCREDIBLE HULK (2008) is to THE HULK (2003). It's a new movie that re-does the origin in a series of flashbacks, but it's a much better movie, faster paced and relentless. It also takes place in New York City, rather than Los Angeles. Ray Stevens (ROME) is perfect as Frank Castle. The main villain is a mobster, Billy Russoti, who Frank tosses in a glass recycling machine that grinds all his skin off. Billy survives but he doesn't look so good and begins calling himself Jigsaw. He thengets his crazy brother, Loony Bin Jim (Doug Hutchinson) out of the mental institution and they go after The Punisher.
The main conflict is that Frank accidently kills an undercover agent, a "good guy", and feels immensely guilty about this, going so far as to confront the agent's widow (Julie Benz) and nearly letting her kill him. Frank's assistant, Micro (Wayne Knight) is worried because he's never seen the hardened vigilante like this.
Jigsaw ends up taking Micro, the widow and her daughter captive and Frank must rescue them. However, Jigsaw has managed to raise up an army of thugs from the city and Frank must make his way through all of these various gangs to rescue them and have the final showdown with Jigsaw.
