For a low-budget this has great special effects and decent production values overall, but the story and acting bring it down quite a bit. The premise is that in the near future an alien race has invaded and uses mankinds' fears against him, making humans into monsters out of mythology, such as zombies, werewolves and vampires. The aliens are called Ma-hars, ripping off author Edgar Rice Burrough's Pellucidarian menace.
A group of space marines are sent to a planet filled with ruins and get stranded there when they are attacked. Not only do they have to deal with the monsters, they have to battle another human who has a grudge against the military. Blah blah blah.
The first five minutes consist of a scrolling explaination, accompanied by voice-over, of what's going on about the alien invasion and the actor nearly gets out of breath. Okay, filmmakers, it was OK when STAR WARS did this intro thirty-years ago because it was a novelty, it hadn't been done, but you can be the first to stop doing it in your next production.
Why is it that all these space-marines look and act like those space marines in the movie ALIENS. We've seen that movie and it's far better than your movie, so come up with a different type of soldier. The "ALIENS Marine" has become a stereotype already.
When the soldiers land on the planet and investigate the ruined out buildings there is graffiti over all the walls. Not only are the aliens bent on mankinds' destruction, they are defacing private property!
