Robin Cook's Invasion (2000)
Movie Review by The Gravedigger
06.10.03

Robin Cook's Invasion (2000) This four-hour miniseries concerns a strange virus that affects humanity. At first these small black stones rain to earth, like mini spaceships, and once picked up jab an enzyme into the person they infect. This was cool because when the first stone was entering the Earth's atmosphere in the title sequence the impression is that it's this huge ship-and then when it lands in front of a diner we see it's the size of an acorn. From there on, though, the movie quickly falls into INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHER predictability. The first person contaminated is Luke Perry, whose personality changes. He starts taking apart electronics around the house and creating strange things. His girlfriend (Rebecca Gayheart of URBAN LEGEND) doesn't like this one bit and confides to her friend. Other people start noticing the behavior of the infected-but by then millions of people are already converted. It's explained that aliens have been watching earth since life started-and now have found suitable hosts in the form of humans. They need hosts because they are viruses. Perry wants to create a gateway so the ships can come through-but this makes little sense since a huge ship shows up at the end. And by the end of the movie he transforms into one of those Grey type aliens, for no apparent reason other than to say 'Hey, he's an alien'. In the last ten minutes the good guys stop the invasion and everyone miraculously returns to normal. 95% of this movie heavily borrows from other movies. Robin Cook should just stick with those medical thrillers.
