The last season of the alien teenager angst ridden show is the best, finally getting the right combination of drama and science fiction. Season Two ended with the revelation that the alien hybrid Tess is pregnant with main character Max's child and she takes off for their home planet because the unborn kid won't survive in Earth's atmosphere. The third season begins with Max wanting to find his son, which is a bit silly considering he's on a different planet. There's one episode where he believes his son is trying to contact him through an autistic kid but that also doesn't make much sense, as he'd be maybe a few months old at the most.
The primary conflict is with Max and Isabelle's adoptive parents, who are finally catching on that something is different about their kids. They start asking questions and even resort to spying. Isabelle also gets married without telling her spouse about her alien powers, which causes problems when he eventually finds out. The FBI is also still hunting the aliens, as is the airforce after a major disaster happens to the local airbase.
What always ends a series is when the main character has a kid. Look at the shows ANGEL and THE X-FILES. And, not surprisingly, what they do with the kid is exactly the same-rather than keeping him they decide that the child should grow up safe, in a "normal" home.
On a positive note, the series does end well and has an "ending" that makes sense and is consistent with the characters, a finale that I'm sure satisfies the ROSWELL fans.
