Two Coast Guard helicopter pilots are sent to find a missing boat after they receive a distress call. They find the sailboat but only one survivor, a blonde woman named Eva (Kim Novak). One body is on the deck, pierced with glass, one is hanging upside down from a mast and another is seemingly floating in mid-air down below deck.
Lt. J. Haig (Doug McClure) is the coast guard who goes down to the boat and he's trapped there after the cable breaks on the rescue basket. The pilot, Lt. Cmdr. Pagnolini, is experiencing technical interference with the helicopter, because of these weird electrical flashes happening in the Triangle and has to return back to Miami to bring help.
So Eva and Haig wait for him to return, which gives Eva enough time to recount her story and how the crew disappeared or were killed. It was originally a fishing trip and they rescue a priest who is floating on some debris in the water. He explains that he was on a small plane and it crashed. As soon as they rescue him, though, the weird electrical storm begins and things start falling apart.
Is the devil testing them? Or is there a logical explanation? The movie does have a great ending.
This is one of those great 70's TV movies, up there with GARGOYLES and ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK?.
