Another great Shaw Bros. movie teaming Ti Lung and David Chiang that has sort of an old western kinda flair. A group of asshole bandits come to town and pretty much take over. Everybody is scared as hell and nobody seems to wanna stand up and fight. Eventually, the local thief and troublemaker, played by Chiang gets a couple guys pumped up enough to fight back. An acrobat traveling through, a woodcutter, and another brave guy decide to whip ass and it works well, that is until the bandit leader shows up with a gun. One chick is brave enough to put her body up to the bandits to keep the other younger local girls from being molested. The few brave ones soon get revenge by stealing the gun, blowing up a few bandits, and learning that the local goof ball they all thought was just a simple thief is really a big-time criminal and killer who has hid in their town for years, forsaking his evil past. The end here is a tearjerker and this whole film is really a gritty, tough movie to watch. Lotta action, some cool characters, and the twist at the end really makes this thing work. This has gotta be one of my all-time favorite Shaw Bros. films, guess I saw it way too much as a kid. The western feel and the sad music are nice added touches. Great performances throughout will have you cheering for the good guys and absolutely hating the baddies. Chen Ken Tai also does a great job here helping Ti Lung and David Chiang whip asses. This may not be for everybody, but any Shaw fan can't be without it.
