Another popular Hammer Dracula flick starring Chris Lee in the title role, Scars packs plenty of death and sadism in with its vampirism. Dracula here gets brought back to life when a blood-spewing bat drips all over he Count's ashes. He wastes no time wasting some local wenches, getting the town's folk to form the old posse up to the castle to whoop his ass! They lock the women and children in the church for safety until the men come back. Well, in what I thought was a funny twist, the group doesn't get much accomplished at Dracula's castle and when they get back to the church to tell the ladies, everyone inside has been slaughtered! Hurray for Dracula! The film then proceeds in the usual, though more sadistic, Hammer fashion as a young man learns way too much at the castle. He is soon killed off, his brother and brother's old lady come searching and then it's a struggle until the end. Dracula puts the evil eye on the heroic brother, sends bats to attack the helpful local priest, and wants to badly put the bite on brother's old lady. Luckily, our hero snaps out his hypnosis in time to fight for his woman. He spears the vampire with a metal rod and lightning strikes, electrocuting Dracula. Good stuff! A Hammer classic we all need to see and own.
