Stephen Baxter (Christopher Eccleston, who is so great at the new DR. WHO), is an average Joe who works in a video store in England and has never done anything spectacular in his life. Then, one day, he disappears for over a month, much to the concern of his friends, particularly Judith Roach (Lesley Sharp), who was the last to see him. When he does reappear it's at a mental hospital. He is convinced that he is the Son of God. Of course, no one believes him-until he performs what seems to be a miracle at a local Stadium. He also doesn't know what he's going to do in the future. The information comes to him like a download from a computer.
Soon, people do start believing him-and his speeches are telecast throughout the world. He tells everyone that mankind must write a Third Testament within three days or else the world will end. He's inundated with manuscripts, far more than he or anyone else can read within that time.
Also, we're shown individuals who are influenced by dark forces-and they start talking to Judith, to bring her on their side, as she's the one Steven listens to the most. When they speak or do things their eyes glow this malevolent yellow, sort of like the baby in ROSEMARY'S BABY.
The ending of this movie surprised me, as it wasn't what I expected, and it at first seemed anti-climatic until the more I thought about it. A very thought-provoking, original mini-series from the UK.
