Seizure (1974)
Movie Review by The Gravedigger
01.31.10

Seizure (1974) Edmund Blackstone (Jonathan Frid of the original DARK SHADOWS), an author who is writing a children's horror novel, invites a bunch of Bohemian friends for the weekend. Yet, he's uneasy about the situation, especially when he sees someone he thought he made up. He's also not the only one having otherworldly experiences--an aging woman named Eunice is contacted by her dead husband and he tells her to trust the diminutive man (Herve Villechaize) that appears in her bedroom. He gives her an ointment and tells her if she uses it she'll be young again. It doesn't quite work out how she plans.

As the evening goes on Blackstone's young son becomes afraid of him. A guest who is supposed to have a midnight rendezvous with another guy's wife is strangled to death by a dark haired woman, The Queen of Evil (Martine Beswicke of DR JECKYLL & SISTER HYDE)). Then, the midget breaks into the house with all of the other guests and the doors lock. He starts kicking everyone and Blackstone is thrown against a wall by a giant black guy. When the guests wake up, bound, the Queen of Evil explains that they represent death in various incarnations. In fact, one of the guests surmises who they all are--a demented king from the Middle Ages, a famed executioner and Kali, the Hindu Goddess of Death. The survivors are all made to race each other outside and the loser will be executed. The old rich guy has a heart attack. Blackstone and his wife make it to their car but it won't start. The black giant almost gets them. And then they make Blackstone fight Mary Woronov.

The entire movie is surreal and dreamlike and has this very uncomfortable feel to it, which is intended. SEIZURE is an odd movie that sticks with you and is definitely worth a viewing.

Directed by Oliver Stone.
