In the beginning scrolling text which says "Earth was devastated by the robot wars" and "Man has moved onto the moon, colonised it's surface," there are a few spelling errors, which did not bode well for the subsequent film...
Barry Morse (Victor from SPACE 1999) is in control of the base and Michael Crichton's ex-wife is the obligatory blonde chick. If you don't blink you'll see a cameo by singer Vanity at one of the control panels. Anyways, all the humans obey the master computer, Lomax. When a spaceship is sent on a crash course towards their lunar city by evil Jack Palance it's not all that convincing. It clearly looks like a balsa wood miniature and the background of "space" looks painted. The lunarites contact the planet Delta Three, where the ship came from, and new leader Omas (Jack Palance) says he sent it there on purpose (imagine that!). He wants to be ruler of the moon, too.
So the good guys travel to Delta Three to stop Omus and his insane plans of domination. But first they make a stop on a devastated Earth, where they find a bunch of kids in blonde wigs. Once on Delta Three they meet up with some freedom fighters led by a very unenthusiastic Carol Lynley, who was probably wishing she was either on THE LOVE BOAT or FANTASY ISLAND than Delta 3.
The film transfer on this DVD is crystal clear, which actually works more against the film than the dumb script and undirection. You can see every seem on the sets, every stray bit of glue and bad painting on those robots. THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME may honestly be one of the worst movies based on an H.G.Well's story, if not one of the lamest science fiction movies ever made.
