Bruce Boxleitner (BABYLON 5) is the sheriff of a small lakeside town where, years before, they had a problem with these snakehead fish taking over the waters. It was an ecological problem because there are no predators to kill them and they eat all the food in the lake. Two years after they poisoned the fish people start dying, their body parts found floating in the water. The sheriff and his deputies try to figure out what's doing it and one of the theories is an alligator. But once a biologist arrives (Carol Alt) she determines that one of the teeth they found imbedded in a corpse belongs to a snakehead fish. But it's ten times larger than it should be.These fish have grown to enormous proportions because the town doctor and his brother, who owns a fishing store, have dumped gallons and gallons of human growth hormone into the lake. This caused the surviving snakeheads to reproduce and grow far more rapidly than they would have naturally. Most are six to eight feet long, though one shows up that's the size of a whale. The snakeheads can stay for a few hours out of the water, moving about on their strong fins and able to breath air. The sheriff's daughter and her friends get stranded on one of the lake's islands and must fight off the fish until her father comes to the rescue. They hole up in a house but the fish manage to break in through the walls. In the end they end up electrocuting all the fish by dropping the town's main power line into the lake. Of course this movie follows the usual formula of JAWS or PIRANHA but the animals are weird enough and the effects suitably gory that it makes for an entertaining watch.
