Japanese gore flick with a pretty cool premise. Starts off with a teenage scientist creating a new kind of intense painkiller that replaces hurt with a sexually charged pleasure sensation... He secretly slips a little of it to three young girls, all participating in his scientist mother's contraceptive experiment. As the dosage kicks in, the teen strikes up a friendship with one of the girls who introduces him to her bizarre lifestyle involving a disorder which renders her immune to sleep. She lives with a cactus and a virtual reality set which, somehow, mentally fuses her to the cactus. None of this ever makes much sense, but the other two girls begin experiencing the effect of the painkiller which makes for some very memorable SPLATTER...
To be honest, the quantity of gore isn't huge, but "Splatter: Naked Blood" stays pretty on-track and interesting while blending surrealism with a few gruesome 'splatter' segments. Like I said, the whole cactus/sleep goggles thing didn't really "jive" with the bulk of the movie but it may have just been a case of me not completely grasping some kind of intuitive symbolism or something. The scenes of self-mutilation and cannibalism are incredibly nasty, however. The chick eating a piece of her vagina, nipple, and eyeball was extremely cool! If you like "hardcore" Japanese splatter-films, this is definitely one to seek out...
