I was hoping this would be one of the best of the theatrical STAR TREK movies. Although big things do happen, namely the marriage of Deanna and Riker and the death of one of the principals, this movie simply didn't have a lot of energy. The pacing/editing was just 'off'. The story is that the Romulan government is taken over by the Remans, who've been used as a slave race. But the Reman's leader is a young human, a human who just happens to be the clone of Jean Luc Picard-and he wants to kill the captain of the Enterprise. He also needs the captain's blood because his own DNA is starting to break down because of a side-effect of the cloning process. The actor they cast as the clone is damn good-a creepy villain. And he looks exactly like a younger version of Patrick Stewart. But once the first confrontation happens and the crew of the Enterprise once again has to prevent the destruction of the Earth, I started to yawn. It seemed like the producers were trying to copy WRATH OF KHAN too much and it didn't work. FIRST CONTACT still remains the best of the 'Next Generation' movies.
