This is one of those stranded-on-Mars movies, about five years too late. Here, a group of seven astronauts make it to Mars, only to have their ship crash-land because of the weird magnetic field. There's a lot of talk of what they are going to do, what they aren't going to do, et cetera. Finally, three of them decide to venture outside and explore, not wanting to slowly wait and die. They discover the remnants of an ancient Martian civilization-and also a way for them to stay alive on the planet. The first hour of the movie has the air of 'I'm an INDEPENDENT movie', with all those pretensions. It doesn't become interesting until they discover the ruined city.
