This is better than the recent made-for-tv movie starring Dougray Scott because it's simply more interesting. In order to cure his heart ailment, Dr. Jeckyll develops nanotechnology that has the side-effect of transforming him into the brutish looking Mr. Hyde. As he can't always control the transformations, he's hired Hyde as a lab assistant, so his being there wouldn't be suspicious. The make-up for Hyde is similar to that of Hyde from the 30's Fredric March movie version, which is cool.
Although Tracy Scoggins (BABYLON 5) is a bit too old for the police detective, she can act, and lot of the credit goes to Tony Todd as Dr. Jeckyll. He makes this movie. There's also a surprise at the end that reveals a THIRD persona/creature, a nod to Poe's MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE.
I also thinks it's only the second time that Dr. Jeckyll has been portrayed by an African-American, the first by Bernie Casey in DR. BLACK & MR. HYDE from the 70's.
I would love to see Tony Todd in a BLACULA remake.....
