I sometimes wonder about the relationship Clint Eastwood and Sondra Locke had. On screen and off screen partners for at least a decade, they made some wild flicks together and it seems Sondra always played a womanizer, a slut, a prostitute, or the victim of rape (in a few flicks, including this one and THE GAUNTLET). In SUDDEN IMPACT, Sondra and her sister were raped by a group of thugs behind a carnival and her sister remains catatonic from the events. The rape, seen in flashbacks and fast clips, is vile and nasty. Sondra goes after those that wronged her---shooting them in the balls and forehead each time. One of the rapists is a despicable pig of a woman and she gets hers too. (I cheer every time that bitch gets offed!) Meanwhile, Dirty Harry Callahan (Clint) is up to his old tricks again, blowing away felons on the street when they rob diners and break the law. Here the infamous make my day line is heard for the first time, and many of these scenes, featuring all African American bad guys , could probably never be filmed and released in today's politically correct world. Food for thought there. Dirty Harry causes so much trouble on the streets of San Francisco that he's shipped out to a small seaside town to follow up a shot-to-the groin case, which puts him on the trail of Sondra Locke---and in between the sheets with her too. (That Hollywood horndawg couple always had fuck scenes together, my fave which was in EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE. See Clint feel up Sondra's tight ass in that one!) Sondra continues to kill the rapist group until Clint figures things out, leading to a nice showdown where Dirty Harry finishes up the business Sondra started. Classic movie here, violent, over-the-top, with a grisly tone. They don't make em like they used to and probably never will. Well worth a view...or a re-view, any time!
