In this DC Comics film follow-up to BATMAN V SUPERMAN government agent Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) assembles a group of formidable criminals into a sort of reluctant superhero team to fight potential meta-terrorist threats. Among them are Deadshot (Will Smith), the Joker's girlfriend, Harlequin (Margot Robbie), Boomerang, Diablo, Killer Croc and The Enchantress. Heading the group is military man Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman of ROBOCOP), who is in love with the Enchantress' alter-ego, Dr. June Moone.
At first we're given introductions and mini-origin/capture stories of the criminals which include cameos by Batman and The Flash (tying it to the upcoming JUSTICE LEAGUE movie). Then, it's the assemblage of the group and finally their mission, which turns out to be fighting the god-like Enchantress who sets herself free and who also resurrects her just as powerful brother. They take over a city and begin to build a huge machine of destruction that will destroy mankind. They've also transformed a lot of people into these zombie-like creatures that the squad has to fight.
What makes this movie superior to the other DC Comics movies so far is that these are well fleshed out, likable characters. The movie is fun. And the best thing about it is Jared Leto's portrayal of the Joker, which is the most accurate version of the Joker in films yet. THE SUICIDE SQUAD is highly recommended.
