Jennifer Lynch's first movie since BOXING HELENA is one of 2009's best horror movies, a psychological thriller with a slam-bang ending. It begins with a brutal killing of a couple in a motel room, then goes to two FBI agents (Bill Pullman & Julia Ormond) who are investigating a related murder. The incident is told from the perspective of three different people--a young girl, a teenager and one of the cops on the local force. They each have a bit of the puzzle. What the adults say they were doing there is different from what they were really doing--the teenager was doing drugs with her boyfriend and the cop was shooting out tires of cars driving by. However, all of their accounts of the killers match up. The one who holds the key to their identity, however, is the little girl. I love non-linear constructed movies, like MOMENTO, and this one definitely pays off in a big way. I did not see that ending coming and it made me want to re-watch the movie.
