The re-imagining of the 70's series continues into it's second season. The premise is that a virus has wiped out 90 percent of humanity and the remaining humans have begun to band together for survival. In the finale of season one Abby, one of the main characters, is kidnapped by scientists who have isolated themselves from the virus. They need her to work on a cure since she seems to have an immunity to fight it off, since she had contracted it and survived. Greg Preston was shot in the scuffle and they rest of the group takes him away, hiding in one of the abandoned buildings of the city. The group's doctor, Anya, manages to get the bullet out but needs supplies so they go to a nearby hospital to scrounge around for medicine. But it's bad timing because there's an explosion. Abby and a guy named Al get buried in the rubble and it's a race against time to get them out. Tom, the former convict, does everything he can to rescue Anya, who he's in love with and inadvertently saves Al and Greg in the process. Yet when Greg recovers he kicks Tom out of the group, which isn't good, since he was their main protector. Later, they run into a trucker who sells people into slavery and must rescue a few of their members who are forced to work in a coal mine. And the virus has mutated into a deadlier form, which they find out when one of the women contract it and has to isolate herself in a house while all the others wait for her to die.
The original series was concerned with them settling down and founding communities, which I thought was interesting and realistic. In this revamped series, it's mainly about escaping from one place or the other or searching for something, whether it be the source of the original virus or Abby finding her son, Peter. My biggest complaint is that they are trying to answer and give explanations to too many things too quickly. It also takes some of the steam out of the show when Abby is finally reunited with her son, Peter, who she thought may have survived. It all fits too neatly together.
