This is an interesting take on the alien invasion scenario--an invasion movie where you never see the aliens or any alien spacecraft. A young girl is abducted by a seeming homeless man and implanted with a strange, quarter-sized device. She's found by a local detective and returned to her mother (Marcia Cross). An FBI man (A shaven-headed John C. McGinley) comes to the sheriff's office to investigate the captured abductor, who they say is part of a white supremacy group bent on terrorism. Of course, this guy is working for the aliens. The detective ends up protecting the young girl and her mother from more alien controlled agents and he's quickly framed for their murders. Fortunately, they are befriended by a group of resistance fighters, all former abductees, who hide them. They learn that a fleet of spaceships is going to teleport in orbit very soon-but the entire group is killed beforehand. It's up to the detective to carry out the mission and foil the invasion.McGinley always portrays a great villain (as in Dean Koontz's INTENSITY, HIGHLANDER 2, et cetera) and he's in top form here. The bald head makes him look more crazy.Chad Lowe, in a subdued performance, portrays the alien leader. All in all the movie keeps you interested in what's going on, lightly side-stepping the usual cliches and stereotypes.
