Terminator: Genysis (2015)
Movie Review by The Mortician
01.03.16

Terminator: Genysis (2015) Arnie is back in the fifth entry of the Terminator series. This one focuses on time travel and altering the past to change the future once again. Kyle Reese is once again sent back to 1984 to protect Sarah Conner, only to find things completely changed. Sarah is already a warrior and PROTECTED by an aging Terminator played by Schwarzenegger due to history being altered, with Skynet having sent Terminators to kill her earlier and earlier. There's another T-1000 out to kill them all and even a scene where the Guardian Arnie Terminator fights the 1984 version of himself early on. (Way cool and wow, seeing Arnie's 1984 Terminator flawless on the big screen again was a real treat!) Of course, everything becomes a race to stop Skynet (renamed Genysis, in case you don't know!) from going "on-line" again in 2017... The pacing is good, the action is awesome, and the CGI Terminators are most excellent. If you don't overthink this one (and all the time travel scenarios it "rewrites"-including the history of the first two TERMINATOR films!), it's not a bad flick. The PG-13 rating obviously hurts the blood and nudity content, but the envelope is pushed as far as the rating will allow. I thought Emilia Clarke, picking up the Sarah Connor role from Linda Hamilton, was excellent. She's a hot looking young lady and shows ample cleavage in many scenes. Who wouldn't want to get naked with her and time travel? Anyway, Genysis has many twists and turns, including making John Connor, Kyle and Sarah's son of the future who leads the rebellion against the machines, a bad guy. I thought all this was pretty neat and it was great to see Arnie back playing all these incarnations of the Terminator again so flawlessly, including the new aging (on the outside only) Terminator protector. Was this movie necessary? No. But that doesn't stop it from being a helluva good watch. Park your brain at the door and just go with the action! For me, the first one will always be the best, followed by the second. But I enjoy the whole franchise.
