I have somewhat mixed feeling about this show, most of them having to do with the actors and the pacing, which of course has to do with the television format.
Lena Headey (300) does a valiant enough job filling Linda Hamilton's shoes as Sarah Connor but Thomas Dekker (HEROES) doesn't even fill the socks of the character of John Connor.
I thought it interesting that they bypassed TERMINATOR 3 by changing the time-line and jumping eight years into the future, thus pushing back the "Rise of the Machines". John is still sixteen years old when he should be twenty-four. Sarah also finds out that in this alternate timeline she dies of cancer, so she goes to the doctor to get a check up and finds out that she's fine.
The most intriguing character is Cameron (Summer Glau), a friendly female Terminator who looks to be the same age as John. She poses as his sister most of the time.
Of course, there are Terminators after them while the family tries to stop Skynet from destroying the world. In the last several episodes of the first season we're introduced to Derek Reese (Brian Austin Green), Kyle's older brother, and he knows that John will eventually become a leader. In the last episode he takes John to a park and they watch two kids play baseball--- kids who are Derek and Kyle as children.
It will be interesting to see what direction the show will go when it returns in Fall '08.
