Here's an old film you gotta love since it stars Barbara Steele and is a decent Italian romp into the bizarre. Some old professor has died, one who dabbled in the occult, and mysteriously the five witnesses begin to buy the farm in strange ways. The guy owned a castle, now inhabited by his hot wife played by Steele and his overly afraid daughter, which was built over a burial ground for plague victims and plague wielders who spread the disease on purpose until being captured and killed. Before he died, the man was able to contact these undead monsters and make a deal with them to avenge his death on those that have done him wrong. The film unfolds slowly, but it's great fun and plain nasty by the end. The scene where the Dr.'s old phonograph is used to document his dealings with the undead is very reminiscent of the scene in the basement in evil dead. Wonder if Raimi saw this one?
