Guy Pierce (TIME MACHINE, MOMENTO) plays Dr. Sam Franks, an emotionally distant psychologist who must return to his home town in Australia to bury his father. Once there, he starts remembering his childhood, and the close friendship he had with a girl one Summer. But the experience ended in a horrible tragedy, which affected the rest of his life. One night, in a rainstorm, he sees a woman standing on the edge of a bridge-and she falls into the river below. He dives in and saves her, taking her to his home. She claims to have no memory of who she is exactly. But he recognizes her from his train ride into town, a woman he briefly met named Ruby. The movie cuts back and forth from present day to flashbacks of his childhood, all leading up to the event that changed his life. And the two stories start to converge, as Ruby starts acting more and more like his childhood friend. It turns out that his friend drowned, sucked down by the river's current-and that he felt horribly responsible because it was his idea to go into the water. He had also let go of her hand for a moment, the moment she was whisked away. It turns out that Ruby has appeared so that he can set the past to rest-but is she a ghost or a manifestation of his mind? This was a decent ghost story, very character driven.
