This apocalyptic movie reminded me of the 70's movie THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR, only without Yul Brynner.
The premise is that all the gas has been used up and it rapidly caused society to fall apart and for everyone to either die or kill each other. A group of people, led by a professor named Darwin (Robert Carradine) have banded together and live in an abandoned hospital, which they believe is safe. That is until a woman named Neon (Rachel Miner) is rescued from a band of thugs. Unfortunately, these thugs, which include a guy named Jackal (Michael Madsen sort of reprising his RESERVOIR DOGS performance) and Mongrel (Vinnie Jones), are cannibals. They start to attack the group each night and take a person (for dinner). There are too many of them so the good guys have to figure out a way to survive.
Although the "twist" at the end could be seen a mile away I didn't mind, as the movie kept me hooked and the characters were interesting. Ultimately, this is a zombie movie but instead of zombies there is this gang of cannibals called Rovers.
This was one of the films included in Lions Gate AFTER DARK FILM FESTIVAL.
