Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the woods, along comes Trees: The Movie. This self proclaimed spoof/tribute to JAWS, written and directed by Michael Pleckaitis, is a lumbering riot and proves that sometimes the bite is worse than the bark. Hazelville Forest Ranger Mark Cody (Kevin McCauley) is called to action when a man-eating tree starts laying waste to campers in their sleepy little town. With the help of loony lumberjack Squint (Peter Randazzo) and tree hugger of the Year Cooper (Philip Gardiner), its a fight to the finish to save the townspeople from certain death at the limbs of a blood thirsty pine. Fans of the original JAWS will surely enjoy the parallel storyline to the killer shark flick, right down to paraphrasing portions of the dialogue. The acting, for the most part, was top-notch and the cinematography was excellent. For all of you flesh fiends, there was no nudity and very little blood aside from a few splashes of red here and there. If you are looking for something to scare you out of your wits, this is not it, but if you are looking for a good film, some nostalgia and a few good laughs, Trees: The Movie will leave you in splinters. Look for it on video in the coming months!
