The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones: Trenches of Hell: Here, Indy is fighting as a young colonel in the Belgian army (it's the only army that would take someone so young). After the officers of his regiment are killed they're reassigned under French command, for the nearly impossible task of capturing a Chateau overrun by the Germans. This trench fighting is extremely brutal. Not only are they hugely outnumbered, the Germans also use poison gas and flamethrowers.Once they take the Chateau, with only a dozen guys left alive, they're overrun by more German troops coming in. Indy and one other survivor are taken as prisoner. Here, they help the British prisoners dig a tunnel out of the compound-they all escape, but Indy is re-caught. Because they view him as a troublemaker (and think he is someone else because of the stolen uniform he is wearing), he's then shipped to a maximum security hold, an ancient castle from which there is no escape. In the end, Indy and Charles de Gaul escape in coffins that are to be cremated. Again, Indy barely survives.
