Ever since I laid eyes on this one heavenly piece of Japanese splatter, suitably titled "Tokyo Gore Police" a while back, I knew I had to see everything like it in this 'new wave' of comic book styled splat-stick. "Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl" caught my eye when I saw it was co-directed by Yoshihiro Nishimura (of TGP) and also Naoyuki Tomomura (director of "Stacy: Attack of the Schoolgirl Zombies"). After my instant double orgasm, I gave this one a look and, as expected, it didn't disappoint. Now, you cannot and SHOULD not expect anything to top the non-stop bloodbath that was TGP - it simply cannot be done - but "Vampire Girl" ramped up the points in terms of remarkably inventive gore and all around visual insanity!
The plot is actually pretty weak, involving a teenage vampire romance among two high school kids; one of whom is a transfer student who happens to be a bloodsucker. She's in love with this shy kid whom she gives a piece of chocolate to for Valentine's Day which is filled with her blood. The boy eats it, suffers a psychedelic head trip, but hasn't quite consumed enough of her blood to make the full transition... While this is going on, the chemistry teacher and the "over-sexed" school nurse hottie are working on some kind of Frankenstein-like experiments in the basement. When they get a drop of Vampire Girl's blood, they finally have their necessary ingredient to bring corpses back to life...
I guess my only real complaint on this one was that there was too much noticeable CGI and it really looked shitty. Granted, much of the film obviously couldn't have been pulled off without some digital "enhancements", but many of these particular effects were just laughably bad. And as mentioned, the gore, though plentiful, is rather tame compared to TGP. Still, "Vampire Girl" has a lot to offer in the area of limb hacking and arterial blood spray. Just don't plan on seeing half-gator chicks biting dude's dicks off. There's a much less serious tone to this one than with "Machine Girl" and TGP which was okay by me, even if I didn't find any of the humor all that funny... J-splatter hounds will get a kick out of "Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl".
