An orphan boy in the Phillipines finds a huge egg that hatches a pterosaur looking creature. He takes it with him into town and soon realizes that it's a mistake because it is growing so quickly. So he takes it back to the sacred caves where he found him and encounters the indigenous natives, who worship the creature as a god. Every four hundred years a dinosaur hatches from the volcano. The boy and the pterosaur, which soon grows to adult size, become quick friends. He even rides on its back when it flies over the nearby city. They are caught on tape by a nosey investigative reporter and the image of the boy flying on the monster is seen by thousands, including a mercenary (Vernon Wells of THE ROAD WARRIOR) and his boss (Robert Vaughn) who want to capture it and make money. They finally do catch it-and it's up to the boy to free him. This is a somewhat mushy pre-teens movie, though the dinosaur is cool. The full-scale mockups of its head and talons look good-but in wide shots when it flies and lands, shaky stop-motion-animation is used, which undoes the illusion a bit.
