In the 1600's a New England family is kicked out of their community. There is the father and mother and their four children, a teenaged son and daughter, two young twins and a newborn baby. They make a homestead out in the wild-but weird things begin to happen. First, the baby disappears right in front of the oldest daughter. They think it may be a wolf that took him but the audience is shown it's really a witch who kidnapped him. The mother starts acting a bit crazy and is threatened by the eldest daughter, who is becoming a woman. Then, the oldest boy disappears, only to return in shock and naked. The mother starts to believe that it's her daughter who is the witch and the husband begins to believe this as well. Everything becomes clear in the end-and it's a very satisfying ending.
THE WITCH is a very atmospheric, creepy movie that feels like it was made in the 70's (like LET'S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH, SHOCK WAVES). Highly recommended.
