Patrick and Louise's young daughter, Alice, is savagely killed by a dog. They move away, to a small village called Wake Wood--and are offered a unique opportunity by the inhabitants. They all belong to an ancient Druidic cult--and they are able to resurrect the dead for three days. This would allow time for Patrick and Louise to say their goodbyes to their daughter and end their mourning. However, there's a catch. If they go through with the procedure then they'd have to remain for the rest of their lives in Wake Wood. They can never leave. Also, in order for this to work their daughter has to be dead less than a year, which they assure is the case. Of course, the returning Alice isn't quite the same little girl. Some of the inhabitants pick this up right away--and the parents see this when their dog is slaughtered. Something with the resurrection did not go right and something else, besides Alice, has hitched a ride back...
WAKE WOOD is an extremely well-done, creepy as hell horror movie, and one of the best movie variations of "The Monkey's Paw" I've seen. Highly recommended.
