In the early 1900's a man is found drowned, washed to shore, after being missing for a few weeks. It turns out he was kidnapped by a group of pirates who live in a city beneath the sea, where the last remnants of Atlantis also dwell. The pirates use these half men/half fish creatures, which kind of look like the Creature from the Black Lagoon, to do their bidding. When a woman is kidnapped her love interest (Tab Hunter) goes to find her with the help of an old professor and his pet chicken (!). I think this movie was made shortly after the success of JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH and the fowl was included to remind us of the goose in that particular movie. The underground/underwater city is cool, frequented by earthquakes caused by an active volcano. And you know as soon as they show that volcano that's how the movie is going to end. The fun part of the movie is Vincent Price's over-the-top performance as the leader of the pirates, a man who turns out to be a few hundred years old, preserved by the conditions in the City.
