This is one of those shows, like AMERICAN HORROR STORY, that are very grim. You never know who is going to die-but in this, basically everyone from the first season bites the dust. And one of the fringe characters from the first season plays a big part here, after returning from living in the wilds of this future world.
The main character this time, newly unfrozen after two thousand years, is Dr. Theo Yeltsin. He meets up with his estranged wife, who sort of explains what's going on. He also meets the community's young, ruthless leader, Jason, who is nothing but trouble. The guy causes an unbelievable amount of misery for everyone. It's three years since the end of the first season and now everything is failing. It's a military ruled society and they are unable to grow food within the walls of Wayward Pines. So they try to plant crops outside, and are met with resistance by the Abbies (what humanity has evolved into), who are growing more numerous. Theo is fascinated by the Abbies and thinks they are much more intelligent than believe, which is confirmed when a female is captured in town. In fact, she turns out to be the leader and is collecting information about the humans.
Things become dire as thousands of Abbies gather outside the walls and there are not enough freeze chambers to put everyone into suspended animation...
I thought this was a great second season, much better and more interesting than the first. Even if there isn't a third and final season they did give it an ending, of sorts. Recommended.
