Distraught over the murder of his family, Abe Dale (Nathan Fillion) attempts suicide and almost succeeds. But after he's revived in a hospital, he learns he can predict when people around him are about to die. Abe takes it upon himself to alter the destiny of these ill-fated individuals but soon learns that playing God really angers some folks: namely the devil. -netflix
I enjoyed the original White Noise so I thought I should at least give this one a chance when it came out on DVD. I am glad that I did, because it was a pleasant surprise. I was expecting it to tie in more closely to the original... but the differences in the sequel made it good.
So we start the story off with Abe and his family eating lunch at a restaurant, when a man walks in and deliberately murders Abe's wife and kids, before turning the gun on himself. A few days later, not being able to deal with the pain of losing his family, Abe tries to commit suicide, but fails. His near death experience gives him the ability to see and hear traces of spirits through electronic devices, which manifests itself in the form of a white light. We soon find out that this white light is a signature meaning that the person carrying it will die soon, and Abe uses this knowledge to begin saving people's lives. This thrusts him into a battle with death and a race against time... learning along the way that you cannot cheat fate.
White Noise 2 turned out to be a great scary movie, one full of scares and twists that will keep you interested. You have to follow along closely so that you can keep up with what is going on. The acting was very well done, especially on the part of the lead, Nathan Fillion. The effects were decent and for the most part they set a creepy, moody film. If you are looking for a continuation of the first film, you will be disappointed... as the only real correlation between the two is the interaction with the Electronic Voice Phenomena. If you are in the mood for a movie that leans more towards the scares and not the gore, this is one that I definitely recommend that you check out.
