In the opening episode of this new animated series, Professor X and Jean Grey are seemingly killed in an explosion that destroys the mansion. It's later discovered that Magneto has Xavier's comatose body on Genosha, which the team retrieves. In a parallel story we skip twenty years into the future, where the professor has awakened from his coma to find the world taken over by a new breed of Sentinel. He's able to project his consciousness back in time and communicate with Wolverine, who takes over leading the X-Men.
This is an intriguing series and a good followup to X-MEN: EVOLUTION animated show from several years ago.
