A spaceship with four men complete taking pictures of Mars from orbit. When they turn around to go back home they are caught in a cosmic storm which increases their speed. They blackout and crashland on a snowy planet that has earth's atmosphere and gravity. They explore the surrounding, desolate countryside and come across a cave. They are attacked by two dog-sized spiders. That night they are attacked by a tribe of what appeared to be one-eyed cavemen. When they stumble upon a graveyard they realize that they are on Earth and that centuries have passed. then they are attacked by more mutants and take refuge in another cave, where there's a metal door. They enter and find that it's inhabited by normal humans. It is the year 2508.
While the women they see are beautiful and strong all the men are pale and weak. And the women immediately glom on to them.
The crewmen want to convince them that it's time to recolonize the surface world but they are too comfortable and afraid of confrontation with the mutants. But will less offspring each year they really have no alternative.
