This prequel to the X-Men Trilogy is much better than I thought it would be, cramming in a lot of storyline and Mutant characters within two hours.
We're introduced to Logan and his brother, Victor, when they are children in the mid-1800s and fighting in the Civil War through the Vietnam War. The brothers are recruited by William Stryker, who has put together a team of mutants to go on special missions, but these missions are only to fulfill Stryker's agenda. He dupes Logan into volunteering to become Weapon X, though it backfires. At this point the movie does become a little silly because the point of Weapon X is to make him invulnerable with the Adamantium coated bones--yet for the rest of the movie he tries to kill Logan. Well, he can't --they made him invulnerable!
However, the movie does bring everything together and introduces a young Cyclops, Emma Frost, The Blob, The Toad and Gambit, as well as a younger Professor Xavier, who looks more like a computer effect than anything else. I think that's my only real problem with the movie--some of the effects, particularly Wolverine's metal claws, look too cartoony. Liev Shreiber makes a good Sabretooth.
