ZOMBIELAND is a fun movie, sort of the flip side of 28 DAYS LATER. They're not really zombies but people driven into a rage by a mad cow-like disease. The story is told from the perspective of a college-age loner who is on his way back to Columbus Ohio to see if his parents are still alive. On the way he meets Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), a red-neck who loves killing the zombies every which way. He's most concerned with finding some Hostess Twinkies, as they are a rare commodity in this post-apocalyptic land. When they stop at a grocery store they meet two sisters, who seem to be in need of help. It turns out to be a con--and they take the guys' weapons and vehicle. The meet up again a short time later and reluctantly stick together. A bond starts to form amongst them. The funniest part of the movie is when they reach Hollywood and decide to camp out in some dead celebrity's home. However, the celebrity they pick isn't exactly dead.
The girls are heading to an amusement park called Pacific Playland in California, because that's one of the last places they can remember being happy. They ditch the guys at the mansion and head there alone. The place is abandoned and zombie free but they make the mistake of turning on the power. The flashing lights attract all the zombies in the area. The kid from Columbus wants to be the the older girl so he decides to go after them--and Tallahassee accompanies him. By the time they get to the amusement park the girls are in dire need of saving.
The movie starts off with a bang, with zombies being killed and attacking people, and the gory effects are consistent throughout the film. Much of the humor is derived from the situations and quirky characters, as with SHAUN OF THE DEAD. As I said, this is an enjoyable movie, which would probably make a great franchise.
