First, I love the movie adaptation of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, which I think is one of the best vampire movies to come around in decades. I'm far less impressed with the actual graphic novels.
This installment continues the story begin in DARK DAYS, in which Stella brings back her husband from the dead. He comes back as a vampire and kills her. Now she's a vampire--and totally pissed that Eben killed her. So they go their separate ways, for a while. Eben joins up with a vampire group whose leader wants to be the new Queen. But she wants control of the oldest vampire in the world, who has gone missing. This is further complicated by the fact that this particular vampire is an infant--and has been so for a very very long time. He falls into the hands of Stella, who gets all motherly. There's also the gang of vampires and some vampire hunters. Stella starts missing Eben and by the end of the tale the estranged couple gets back together.
Most of the stuff I've read written by Steve Niles is unsatisfying...at first glance the books are like seeing a really good looking desert but after you eat it are either not filled or not feeling all that great. I guess the 30 DAYS OF NIGHT series is like a big Dairy Cow for Niles--the author has to keep on milking it. But I think everyone else should really stop drinking that milk.
